I had the privilege to serve my people and my Mother Earth at Standing Rock, and am honored to have met many Water Protectors men and women who came to stand with the Hunkpapa Lakota for their water after all, it is all of our water. Energy Transfer Partners and the State of North Dakota tried to demonize ten thousand people as Water Protectors, arresting over 800 of them, some of whom now face time in prison. The name Water Protector came to be known under a hail of rubber bullets, and spray cannons at Standing Rock in 2016. I love that we are Water Protectors, and I love Emoto, who helps us remember the power and magic of water and our own magical powers.
We know that Water is Poisoned, and we know that Water is Life. Ive seen bad idea after bad idea come up, most of which would poison water, and Ive seen people say No, you cant do that to us. I saw and worked with Dine people facing uranium mining, and widespread groundwater contamination from uranium mining. Most of my life, like many others, Ive protected water.
